School Values & Ethos

Our Vision Statement:

Tall Oaks Academy Trust is a caring community which aims to meet the moral, spiritual, intellectual and physical needs of all our children. We have high expectations for every child to succeed in a creative and nurturing environment through the provision of high quality teaching and support. By working with the whole community, we foster tolerance and respect for everyone. Our ultimate aim is to prepare children to fulfil their role as confident and responsible adults in society.

Values

Resilience

We always strive to make sure our children have the best resources to support their education. This is why we regularly use Digital technology to enhance teaching and learning opportunities and increase positive learning outcomes. Our curriculum is broad and wide, It covers the English and Maths as well as Science, the arts, engineering, the community, equality, relationships and friendships, Citizenship and British values. Children can talk about times when they have found something difficult but kept trying and did not give up.

Engagement

Children learn how to be a good learner here. They learn quickly how they can achieve their potential. Children also have the chance to lead their own learning by identifying and locating the resources they need to complete a task without support. They conduct research on topics by themselves or in small teams without adult support, for example when our children researched the voyage of the Mayflower and the hardships many people from our town faced as they crossed to the New World.

Well-being

We have extremely high standards of behaviour at Castle Wood Academy. There is a purposeful atmosphere in school. Children know the difference between right and wrong and can talk about the rewards they get for good behaviour. Our ‘No Outsiders’ programme means all children learn the values of tolerance, acceptance and equality. Our motto is ‘Everyone is different, everyone is welcome’. Our children make our school and our community a better place by getting involved in a variety of local activities and events such as the inter-school sports competitions, the Annual Mayflower Lantern Parade, Remembrance events, carol singing at local old people’s homes and many others.

Aspiration

We have high standards of attainment and progress at Castle Wood Academy. Data shows our children consistently attain above national average in statutory assessments (like SATs and Phonics Screening Checks). We challenge children to think like learners; to take more responsibility for their learning and to aspire to achieve more. Children who show aptitude or talent in a particular subject are pushed and challenged to explore that subject at greater depth and breadth.

Promoting British Values:

In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British Values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain.

Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is "right" and "wrong", all people living in England are subject to its law.

The Key Values are:
